Gobustan National Park · 65 km from Baku
The Gobustan petroglyphs are among the most significant prehistoric rock art collections in the world — over 6,000 carvings of humans, animals, boats, and ritual scenes etched into boulders across what is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The oldest carvings date back 40,000 years, created by nomadic hunters who camped in the caves of this rocky upland. The on-site Gobustan Museum is excellent and gives crucial context before you walk among the rocks.
