When to go, what to expect, and which tours run best in each season
The sweet spot for most travelers. Baku is warm (18–26°C) without summer heat, the Caucasus foothills are green, wildflowers cover the highland meadows, and outdoor activities — hiking, horse riding, photography — are at their best. Our Classic 7-day tour, Northern Highlands, and Photography tours run at full capacity April–June.
Hot in Baku (30–40°C) but cooler in the mountains. The Gabala International Music Festival runs in mid-to-late July — a strong reason to visit this window. Summer tours shift emphasis toward Gabala and Shahdag highlands. Caspian beaches near Baku are popular with local families July–August.
Arguably the best season. Slightly cooler than spring, autumn colours in the Caucasus foothills, pomegranate harvest in Quba (October), and the tourist crowd thins out noticeably. Sheki's caravanserai and Lahij copper village are least busy in October. Strongly recommended for photography tours.
Ski season at Shahdag (16 pistes) and Tufandag. Baku is mild (5–12°C) with the Old City at its quietest and cheapest. Novruz (late March) is the year's most spectacular cultural event — street bonfires, public celebration, and a citywide festive atmosphere.
