Metro, bus, taxi, car rental, intercity transport — everything explained
Baku's metro has 2 lines covering the main city areas. Fare is 0.40 AZN per journey (about $0.24). Clean, safe, and frequent. Key stations: Icherisheher (Old City), 28 May, Nizami, Sahil (Boulevard). Open 6 AM–midnight.
Always use Bolt or Uber in Baku — both apps work perfectly and prices are very low ($2–5 for most city journeys). Never hail an unmarked taxi from the street. Yellow official taxis are also safe but more expensive than apps.
Regular buses and marshrutkas (minibuses) connect Baku to all major cities. Baku's main bus terminal is at 8 November metro station. Intercity fares are cheap ($3–8 to most destinations).
Renting a car gives flexibility, but driving standards outside Baku can be erratic. International driving licence required. Many visitors prefer hiring a private driver with car for the day or multi-day trips — often cheaper than expected and far less stressful.
