The Classic circuit — Baku, Gobustan, Sheki, Gabala, and Quba

Overview

Seven days is our most-booked itinerary length and the one we'd recommend to a first-time visitor with a week to spare. It covers the full northern loop — Baku's Old City and modern landmarks, Gobustan's ancient rock art, Sheki's Silk Road architecture, Gabala's mountain resort, and Quba's pomegranate country — without ever feeling rushed.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival & Baku Old City

Settle in, then explore Icherisheher: the Maiden Tower, Palace of the Shirvanshahs, and the Old City's cobbled lanes. Evening on the Caspian Boulevard.

Day 2 — Modern Baku & Absheron

Heydar Aliyev Center, Flame Towers, Highland Park in the morning; Ateshgah Fire Temple and Yanar Dag in the afternoon.

Day 3 — Gobustan & drive to Sheki (via Lahij)

Morning at Gobustan National Park, then the scenic drive north with a stop in Lahij's copper-craft village before arriving in Sheki by evening.

Day 4 — Sheki in full

Khan's Palace, the caravanserai, Kish village's ancient Albanian church, and the old bazaar. An unhurried day in Azerbaijan's most atmospheric town.

Day 5 — Sheki to Gabala

Morning drive to Gabala (around 1.5 hours). Afternoon at Tufandag Mountain Resort — cable car ride, mountain air, and Nohur Lake.

Day 6 — Gabala to Quba

Drive to Quba (around 3 hours), stopping en route as time allows. Afternoon in Krasnaya Sloboda (Red Village), one of the only Mountain Jewish settlements outside Israel.

Day 7 — Return to Baku & departure

Morning drive back to Baku (around 2.5 hours) with time for final sightseeing or shopping before your flight.

This is the itinerary our guides know best, having run it hundreds of times. Solo travelers should ask about joining a shared-group departure to avoid the single supplement; families should ask about the family-paced variant with shorter driving days.
