Is Azerbaijan safe for tourists in 2026?

Azerbaijan is a politically stable country with a strong security presence, particularly in Baku. The capital is clean, well-lit, well-policed, and comfortable for solo travelers of all backgrounds. Women traveling alone consistently report feeling safer in Baku than in many Western European capitals.

Petty crime exists, as in any city — keep an eye on your phone and wallet in crowded markets. Scams targeting tourists are rare compared to other destinations. Azerbaijanis are genuinely hospitable people who take pride in welcoming visitors.
