Martyrs Lane, Central Baku
Baku's historic funicular railway carries visitors up the hillside from the city centre to Martyrs Lane (Şəhidlər Xiyabanı) — the hilltop park and memorial cemetery that offers the finest panoramic views of Baku, the Flame Towers, and the Caspian Sea. The park itself is Azerbaijan's most important memorial site, dedicated to those who died during the Soviet crackdown of January 1990 and the Karabakh war. The views from here at sunset are extraordinary.
