About these tours

The classic Azerbaijan road trip runs Baku to Sheki in a single day — through the Caucasus foothills, past the copper village of Lahij, and into the Silk Road trading town by evening. The full country circuit adds Gabala, Quba, and the road back to Baku through orchard country. We offer both self-drive road trip support (route planning, accommodation booking, emergency contact network) and chauffeured road trip tours where a driver handles the road while you take in the landscape.

Frequently asked questions
Can foreigners drive in Azerbaijan?
Yes — driving with an international driving permit is permitted. Roads in Baku are well-maintained; rural roads vary. We'll brief self-drivers on road conditions, fuel stop locations, and the sections we'd recommend avoiding in a standard car.
Is the Baku–Sheki road easy to drive?
Entirely paved and well-signposted as far as Sheki. The detour to Lahij involves a mountain road that narrows in places but is manageable in a standard car in good weather. We provide a detailed route note for all self-drivers.
Is a chauffeured road trip better value than self-drive?
For international travelers unfamiliar with the roads and signage, chauffeured tours typically work out better — the guide knows where to stop, where the best food is, and how to handle any unexpected issues.
What happens if my car breaks down on a self-drive route?
We provide an emergency contact number in Baku and a list of roadside assistance points along the main routes. For self-drive trips, we also recommend hiring from a local company with their own breakdown support.
