Azerbaijan Wine Tours

Ismayilli vineyards, pomegranate wine, and the Caucasus wine trail — an underrated wine destination

About these tours

Wineries in Azerbaijan span the Ismayilli foothills, Shamakhi, and the unique pomegranate wine producers of Quba — representing one of the world's oldest continuous wine-making traditions, stretching back over 4,000 years. Azerbaijan's wine culture surprises most visitors — the Ismayilli region in the Caucasus foothills has been producing wine continuously for over 4,000 years, and pomegranate wine from Quba is unlike anything produced anywhere else in the world. Wine tours combine a standard Azerbaijan itinerary with winery visits, cellar tastings, and vineyard dinners, routed through the wine-producing regions the classic tourist trail barely touches.

Frequently asked questions
Is Azerbaijan a serious wine destination?
Yes — the Ismayilli region and the broader Caucasus foothills have one of the world's oldest continuous wine-making traditions. It's not as internationally marketed as Georgia next door, but the wine culture is genuine and the wines are excellent value.
What makes pomegranate wine unique?
True pomegranate wine (not flavoured grape wine) is almost exclusively produced in Azerbaijan's Quba region. The flavour profile is dry-fruity, tannin-light, and completely unlike anything from standard grape varieties. Worth trying even for non-wine-drinkers.
Can wine be shipped home from Azerbaijan?
Yes — we can help arrange bottles through the winery for international shipping. There are limits on what can be carried in checked luggage, so we recommend shipping for larger quantities.
Are wine tours suitable for non-drinkers?
Yes — the cultural and landscape elements of wine-region tours are genuinely interesting regardless of whether you drink. We can easily substitute tasting sessions with other activities if some group members don't drink alcohol.
