About these tours

Azerbaijan has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites within a single 7-day itinerary: the Walled City of Baku (Icherisheher) with Maiden Tower and Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Gobustan's prehistoric rock carvings dating back 40,000 years, and the historic area of Sheki with the Khan's Palace — added to the UNESCO list in 2019. No other country in the South Caucasus packs three World Heritage sites into a circuit this compact, and our UNESCO tours give each the time it deserves rather than rushing through.

Frequently asked questions
How many UNESCO World Heritage Sites does Azerbaijan have?
Three: Walled City of Baku with Shirvanshah's Palace and Maiden Tower (2000), Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (2007), and Historic Centre of Sheki with Khan's Palace (2019).
How long does each UNESCO site take to visit properly?
Baku Old City: a minimum of 3–4 hours for the main highlights, ideally a full day with the museum. Gobustan: 3–4 hours including both the rock art site and mud volcanoes. Sheki: 2–3 hours for the Khan's Palace and surrounding historic centre.
Can the UNESCO sites be visited independently without a guide?
Technically yes, but context makes an enormous difference at all three sites — particularly at Gobustan's rock art, where the significance of individual carvings is non-obvious without expert interpretation.
Is Ganja worth adding to a UNESCO tour?
Ganja has significant historical monuments (Javadkhan Mosque, Imamzade mausoleum) but no current UNESCO designation. It's worth including on a 10-day-plus itinerary for travelers particularly interested in Islamic architecture.
